Twins trade Gio Urshela to Angels for pitching prospect

Hidalgo spent last season in Low A Inland Empire where he went 0-3 with a 4.62 ERA.

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins are sending third baseman Gio Urshela to the Los Angeles Angels for right-handed pitching prospect Alejandro Hidalgo.

The team announced the trade Friday.

Urshela, who was acquired last offseason in a trade that sent Josh Donaldson to the New York Yankees, appeared in 144 games with the Twins where he batted .285 with 13 home runs and 64 RBI. Urshela drove in the same number of runs as two-time All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa, who opted out of his contract earlier this month to test free agency.

Hidalgo spent last season in Low A Inland Empire where he went 0-3 with a 4.62 ERA. He struck out 58 batters in 39 innings pitched and is currently ranked the No. 22 pitching prospect in the Angles' organization, according to a press release.
