ST. PAUL, Minn. - There will be an ice castle in the Twin Cities for Super Bowl 52 after all.
St. Paul Winter Carnival organizers announced Thursday they are planning to build the "People's Palace," a 4,000-block, seven-story ice palace in Rice Park.
"When the world comes to Minnesota for the Super Bowl, we want our one-of-a-kind community celebration to be their destination," organizers stated.
The news comes as a surprise because, in October, it was announced there would not be an ice palace due to a lack of financial support.
To help fund the new effort, organizers have launched a Buy a Block initiative. From certificates to architectural drawings to exclusive invitations, each ice block purchase comes with a special keepsake. Click here for more information.
The 132nd St. Paul Winter Carnival runs Jan. 25-Feb. 10, 2018.
