Windom hospital, schools receive Super Bowl grants

The small city of Windom got a couple of big gifts from the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee Legacy Fund on Tuesday.

WINDOM, Minn. - The small city of Windom got a couple of big gifts from the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee Legacy Fund on Tuesday.

The Legacy Fund awarded a $75,000 grant to the Windom Area Hospital to help build a walking path that will have exercise and wellness stations along its route.

The path will go around the hospital and will be a free resource for Windom residents and people from surrounding communities.

The Windom Area School District also received $30,000 to facilitate breakfast in the classroom at three schools: Windom High School, Windom Middle School and Winfair Elementary School..

The grants are part of the Legacy Fund's 52 Weeks of Giving campaign leading up to Super Bowl 52.

On Tuesday, as part of the grant ceremony, the community gathered for a breakfast and groundbreaking ceremony on the hospital campus. Former Vikings linebacker E.J. Henderson led local students in exercises to encourage healthy habits.
