Minnesota Vikings long snapper Kevin McDermott suffered a gruesome finger injury in his team's 38-31 loss to the Rams – yet still returned to the game.

McDermott lost the tip of his pinky when it got stuck in another player's face mask mid-game, according to a report from ESPN. McDermott grabbed his left hand in immense pain during the Vikings' field goal in the second quarter. Closer replay inspection shows McDermott's finger appearing to get lodged between Rams defensive tackle Michael Brockers and the helmet of offensive lineman Tom Compton.

McDermott sat out the next two special teams plays as he received stitches, prompting backup long snapper David Morgan to fill his duties before McDermott returned. The UCLA product is expected to play through the injury in future games. It's unclear if a surgery would take place.

McDermott isn't alone in the finger injury department; The San Francisco 49ers' Ronnie Lott lost part of his finger in a 1985 game and famously had it amputated to avoid a long recovery period.
