NEW YORK - With their season now in the rear-view-mirror, Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur is now free to take the job as head coach of the New York Giants.
Question is, will they still want him?
Shurmur's offense was nearly non-existent in Sunday's 38-7 beat down at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles. The defensive scheme designed by Philly's Jim Schwartz, plus some untimely turnovers, ensured that the purple would not move on to Super Bowl 52.
Pro Football Talk says Shurmur was actually the Giants' third choice to take the helm, behind offensive and defense coordinators Josh McDaniel and Matt Patricia of the Patriots. The site speculates that the struggles of Shurmur's offense against the Eagles might make the club think twice about their reported hire, and perhaps even go back to the drawing board in their search.
There were reports out of Arizona that the Cardinals were also interested in Shurmur for their vacant head coaching position.
