Chuck Fletcher out as GM of Wild

The Minnesota Wild have split with longtime general manager Chuck Fletcher after the team's first-round playoff exit.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Wild announced on Monday they will not renew the contract of Executive VP and General Manager Chuck Fletcher.

Fletcher was the Wild's general manager for nine seasons.

In a statement, Leipold said Fletcher and his staff "built a winning culture and a perennial playoff team," but said he feels "it is time for a new approach aimed at delivering a Stanley Cup to the deserving fans of the State of Hockey."

Fletcher's biggest move as GM was when he brought in Zach Parise and Ryan Suter to join the Wild in 2012.

The Wild have not made it past the second round of the playoffs since 2003, this year getting eliminated by the Winnipeg Jets.

The team says the search for a new GM will begin immediately. Brent Flahr, Senior VP of Hockey Operations, will serving as acting GM.
