RIO DE JANEIRO - After 16 days of the best athletes in the world competing for gold, the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio have come to a close.

The great state of Minnesota was well represented in Rio. Here's a look back at some of the most memorable moments involving athletes with connections to the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Jorgensen Wins Triathlon Gold

St. Paul's Gwen Jorgensen gave the United States its first gold in triathlon since it became in Olympic sport in 2000. The victory caps what has been arguably the most dominant stretch in triathlon history by Jorgensen, who has won all but two individual races since April 2014.

US Women's Basketball Wins Gold...Again

The USA women’s basketball team didn’t just win gold for the sixth consecutive time, they proved to be the most dominant American bunch of this generation. For gold, the team won its 49th consecutive game. This year's squad featured Minnesota Lynx players Maya Moore, Sylvia Fowles, Lindsay Whalen, Seimone Augustus and Coach Cheryl Reeve.

Catlin Wins Silver in Team Pursuit

Cyclist Kelly Catlin was born in St. Paul, grew up in Arden Hills, now lives in Minneapolis and attends the University of Minnesota. You can't get much more Minnesotan than that. She and her three teammates took home the silver medal in team pursuit.

Post Wins Silver in BMX

St. Cloud native Alise Post won a silver medal in the women's BMX final. Post did not make it out of the semifinals at the 2012 London Olympics.

WOW! Cannot thank everyone enough for all of the messages and support you've shown throughout this journey. I don't think this has all fully set in yet, so I'm going to take a minute to enjoy this moment, and I'll get back to social soon :) ❤️⚪️💙

Plummer Wins Gold, Bronze in Pool

David Plummer had plenty of Minnesotans cheering for him. He started his games battling his way into the 100-meter backstroke final. He finished with a time of 52.40, good enough for a bronze medal. Plummer helped the 4x100-meter medley team qualify. They took home gold, which means Plummer also got gold despite not racing in the final.

Mattek-Sands Wins Gold in Mixed Doubles

Known as the "Lady Gaga of Tennis", Rochester native Bethanie Mattek-Sands, and her playing partner Jack Sock won the Olympic tennis title in mixed doubles. They beat Venus Williams and Rajeev Ram in an all-U.S. final.
