Zimmer hosts football camps for kids

Hundreds of kids are taking the turf as Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, along with his foundation, host two one-day football camps on Saturday and Sunday.

EAGAN, Minn.-- The fieldhouse at the Vikings new home in Eagan is facing one of its first big tests this weekend.

Hundreds of kids are taking the turf at Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center as Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, along with his foundation, host two one-day football camps on Saturday and Sunday.

"At the end of the day, its about promoting football to kids," Zimmer said in between some fun non-contact drills with the campers Saturday morning.

Each day of camp has various sessions, educating kids in grades 1-8 about football related topics such as fundamentals, nutrition, and how to properly take care of your body.

A few Vikings players were spotted on the field Saturday morning as well. Linebacker Anthony Barr says that he's not used to seeing Zimmer in such a light, non-football business mood.

"Its a side of him you don't see very often," Barr jokingly told reporters. "It shows that he is human, that he is a real person."
