Solar powered Christmas display in the west metro

WACONIA, Minn. - A 39-kilowatt solar array was installed at Sovereign Estates Winery this past spring. While it helps to power their winemaking operations at the farm, it also powers a lot of holiday lights.

"We know we have about 10 miles if you would string them end to end, and that grows daily because my husband keeps adding to the light array," said Teresa Savaryn, Owner, Sovereign Estate Winery.

When you have that many lights, you'll find familiar solar-powered displays among the property.

"When you come up the driveway, we have candy-cane lane. We have our large ash trees wrapped in candy cane lights," said Savaryn.

With the solar lights outside and the winemaking happening inside, the solar array is expected to save the farm more than $14,000 a year.

See them during The Spirit of Winter Festival of Lights which begins this weekend and runs to the end of the year. For tickets, visit their website. For information on the solar array from Sundance Energy Solutions, visit their website.
