2 fatal crashes in Nicollet County Monday

NICOLLET COUNTY, Minn. — Two people are dead after two fatal crashes that took place in Nicollet County Monday.

A 17-year-old girl from St. Peter and a 45-year-old woman from New Ulm died in the crashes.

The first crash took place at 11:21 a.m. at Highway 111 mile post 4, according to Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Troy Christianson. The 17-year-old was southbound in a 2000 Buick Regal when her vehicle collided with a northbound 2016 Volvo tractor truck, according to authorities.

The second crash occurred at 1:24 p.m. on Highway 14 and Nicollet County Road 37. Naomi Sue Peterson, 45, of New Ulm was northbound on Nicollet County Road 37 when her vehicle collided at the intersection with a 2019 Volvo tractor, according to the State Patrol.

MnDOT tweeted Tuesday that another crash took place at around 1:30 p.m., which led to the closure of Highway 14 from Courtland to Nicollet.

They described the crash as "serious."
