Crash kills 5-year-old boy in Ramsey

The state patrol says the driver of a 2004 minivan was traveling on Highway 10 when she lost control, ran off the road and rolled.

RAMSEY, Minn. — A 5-year-old boy is dead, and another young child badly injured after what may have been a weather-related crash in Ramsey Thursday night.

The Minnesota State Patrol website says 5-year-old Elijah Reardon of Becker was a passenger in a Toyota minivan that left Highway 10 near Armstrong Boulevard in Ramsey just before 7 p.m. Troopers say the driver of the vehicle lost control and ran off the road, causing the minivan to hit a cement wall before rolling and coming to rest on its roof.

A 4-year-old boy who was riding in the van suffered what are being called life-threatening injuries, while the 32-year old female driver was also injured. Both were taken to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.

Investigators say road conditions were snowy and icy at the time of the crash.
