LAKE ELMO, Minn. — The eastbound lanes of Highway 36 in Lake Elmo are closed for morning rush hour traffic after a crash claimed a motorist's life Friday morning.

It happened just after 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 36 and Keats Avenue. The State Patrol website says a Peterbilt semi with a side dump trailer was stopped in the cross over on highway 36, with the trailer reportedly sticking out into traffic when an eastbound Honda Civic struck the back of the trailer. The driver of the Civic, a 34-year-old man from Maple Grove, did not survive.

Eastbound lanes of Highway 36 will remain closed at Hilton Trail for "an extended period of time," according to the patrol.
