I-35W lane closures, delays coming to north metro

Buckle up and download some good podcasts. With the coming of spring, construction season arrives.
I-35W construction

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — A massive phase of I-35W construction will slow motorists down at the start of spring in the metro.

MnDOT is beginning to implement lane closures and ramp closures on I-35W between County Road C in Roseville and Sunset Avenue on the border of Lino Lakes and Blaine.

From March 31 to April 7, there will be overnight lane closures on northbound I-35W between County Road E2 and I-694 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.; and in both directions on I-35W between the southern Highway 10 interchange and County Road J.

Beginning April 8, long-term lane closures will start on northbound I-35W between Roseville and Mounds View/Arden Hills. Northbound I-35W will go down to two lanes between County Road C and Mounds View Boulevard, and to three lanes between Mounds View Boulevard and the northern Highway 10 interchange.

In late April/early May, drivers on southbound I-35W between the northern Highway 10 interchange and Sunset Avenue will be shifted to the east side of the interstate. I-35W will remain two lanes in each direction in this area.

In mid to late May, traffic on southbound I-35W between County Road C and the northern Highway 10 interchange will be shifted to the east side of the interstate and lanes will be reduced. There will be two lanes between County Road C and Mounds View Boulevard, and three lanes between Mounds View Boulevard and the northern Highway 10 interchange.

Lane closures for I-35W in both directions will be in place until November 2019, as crews reconstruct I-35W southbound.

There will also be ramp closures on southbound I-35W between May and November of 2019. More information on those is available on the project website.

The I-35W North MnPASS project is three years long and will build MnPASS Express Lanes, repave I-35W and ramps between the interstate and local roads, and repair bridges. MnDOT says it will extend the lifespan of I-35W and the bridges along the corridor, reduce congestion, and increase safety.
