Three people are hospitalized after a vehicle carrying five passengers, all ages 12 to 14, went over a guardrail and off a bridge in Prior Lake Tuesday.

PRIOR LAKE, Minn. — Three juveniles were taken to the hospital after a vehicle they were riding in left a roadway in Prior Lake and struck a bridge before falling over the railing.

Prior Lake Police Chief Steve Frazer says the crash occurred just before 10 p.m. Tuesday on County Road 21 near Quincy Street. Responding officers learned five people, all between the ages of 12 and 14, were inside the vehicle when it crashed. Three of the five suffered what Chief Frazer calls "significant injures," and remain hospitalized.

Frazer says it appears one of the kids took a vehicle that belongs to their family without permission. He says criminal charges are possible in the case, but the recovery of the young people who were hurt is the priority at this time.

The names of those involved will not be released as they are juveniles.
