Four major weekend closures that could increase your misery index

The projects, some that close heavily used stretches of interstate and highway in both directions, will impact thousands of motorists.

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — Another Minnesota summer weekend means more significant roadwork that will impact the plans and lives of thousands running errands, heading to grad parties or just out driving around.

  • The most significant involves the closure of I-94 in both directions between Highway 169 in Brooklyn Park and Highway 100 in Brooklyn Center. Work begins at 10 p.m. Friday and winds up at 5 a.m. Monday.
  • After working on the southbound lanes last weekend, crews will work on the northbound lanes of Highway 52 between I-494 in Inver Grove Heights and I-94 in St. Paul. The closure is expected to last from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, reopening in time for rush hour.
  • A high volume stretch of I-94 westbound will close for a relatively short period of time between 4 a.m. and noon on Sunday. The impacted area is between Highway 280 in St. Paul and Cedar Avenue in Minneapolis.
  • Highway 212 will close in both directions between Edina and Eden Prairie over a staggered time period. The eastbound lanes will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday through 10 p.m. Tuesday, and westbound 212 will close from 3 p.m. Saturday through 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Detours will be posted for all closures. You can also find real-time information on roads across the metro and state by checking out the MnDOT 511 travel page.
