MAPLEWOOD, Minn. - An Oakdale woman is dead after the SUV she was riding in struck a deer and crashed Sunday night.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 56-year-old Jody Rae Bergsgaard died around 5:30 p.m. on Highway 36 and Edgerton in Maplewood after the vehicle hit the deer, careened across both lanes of the highway and crashed into a ditch.

Bergsgaard was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, the 61-year-old driver of the SUV, was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with non-life threatening injuries. Investigators say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
