MENOMONIE, Wis. - Investigators believe road conditions played a role in a crash that claimed the life of a woman in western Wisconsin Monday.

It happened at 6:45 a.m. on Wisconsin State Highway 25 at 420th Street near Menomonie. Early evidence suggests that a southbound Ford Mustang driven by a 44-year-old woman from Menomonie crossed the centerline and veered into oncoming traffic, where she collided with a Dodge Ram pickup.

The woman was rushed to Menomonie Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the pickup, a 33-year-old woman from Plum City, Wis., was uninjured.

Wisconsin State Troopers say icy road conditions likely played a role in the crash, but added that the victim was not wearing her seatbelt. There is no indication that alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.
