ELK RIVER, Minn. — Two people are dead following a serious crash on Highway 169 north of Elk River Sunday.

The State Patrol says it happened about 5:30 p.m. on southbound 169 at 221st Avenue NW.

The driver of a Ford pickup was traveling southbound on Hwy 169 in the left lane when the driver of a Chrysler Pacifica attempted to cross those lands from east to west. The Pacifica pulled out into the lanes of traffic and was struck by the truck, sending both vehicles careening off the road.

The van driver, 77-year-old Stanley Albert Swen and his passenger, 68-year-old Victoria Lynette Swen, both of Elk River, died in the crash. The driver of the pickup, a 42-year-old Princeton man, suffered non-life threatening injuries and is hospitalized.

Investigators say there is no indication alcohol was involved in the fatal crash.
