How about them apples?

We're moving on to apple picking season... and the folks at Pine Tree Apple Orchard tell us it's a great crop, but there have been challenges.

"Apple season has been fantastic... as you know, we've had plenty of moisture!" says a smiling John Jacobson of Pine Tree Apple Orchard in White Bear Lake.

Have we ever... and it's been consistent, which is important for the apples. Officially, our longest stretch of days without rain this summer was just 5 days.

So that was good. But what has been challenging for the apples was the cool spring.

"It was a little problematic, it pushed our season back here maybe about a week or so," explains Jacobson.

And summer wasn't all that hot either.

Jocobson says, "We didn't have a warm period in between where we got into the 100s or even the high 90s so that delayed our maturity a little bit."

We fell way behind on number of 90+ degree days. And we had no 100s at all. Heat like that can help the trees catch up even if spring was late to arrive.

So the crop is looking great, but perhaps about a week late. Happy picking!
