SAVAGE, Minn. — Minnesotans can be an odd lot. Where else do people take pride in having to dig out from more snow than your neighbors?

With the multi-day storm event winding down Thursday morning, it appears residents of the southwestern Minnesota community of Tauton have bragging rights, at least until the next major snowfall blows in. The National Weather Service says folks in the Lyon County town and surrounding area received 21 inches during the multi-day event.

As you can see from the following list, many of the communities getting the most snow in the storm's final blast are located in the Twin Cities south metro, although there are exceptions.

  • Taunton - 21 inches
  • Apple Valley - 19.3
  • Prior Lake 17.5
  • Burnsville, Cambridge, Canby - 16.9
  • Bethel, Eagan, NE Minneapolis - 16.7
  • Danube, Slayton - 16.5
  • Hopkins - 16.4
  • Prinsburg, Savage - 16
  • North Branch - 15.9
  • Farmington - 15.
  • Elko-New Market, Lakeville, Oakdale - 15.5
  • Northfield - 15.1
  • Edgerton, Shakopee, St. Joseph - 15
  • Bloomington - 14.5
  • Oak Grove, Richfield - 13.9
  • Rosemount - 13.7
  • Chaska - 13.3
  • Minnesota City - 13.2
  • Bertha, MSP - 13.1
  • Lakefield - 13
  • Corcoran - 13
  • Excelsior - 12.7
  • Byron - 12
  • St. Paul - 12

The list will likely expand and change during the day as additional reports come in.

Of course, the depth of snowfall is not the only gauge of its impact: In southwest Minnesota, powerful winds have turned 13 to 15 inches of snow into gigantic drifts that completely blocked Interstate 90 and state highways in a number of counties.
