Mudslide blocks lanes on Hwy. 169 near St. Peter, Minn.

ST PETER, Minn. — Mudslides have blocked most lanes of Highway 169 south of St. Peter, according to MnDOT.

The mudslides have closed all southbound lanes, and the inside northbound lane, MnDOT said on Wednesday morning. Drivers are asked to use Highway 22 until further notice.

Crews have been on the scene clearing the debris for hours, but the wet weather continues to prompt more mudslides.

MnDOT reminded drivers that when a road is closed, it's illegal to drive on it and can be punishable by a $1,000 fine or 90 days in jail. If someone drives on it and needs to be rescued, they have to pay the expenses.

Other highways that remain closed, according to MnDOT:

  • Highway 86 from Wilder to Iowa (detoured April 15 for utility work on downed power lines)
  • Highway 19 east of Henderson (closed March 19 due to flooding)
  • Highway 93 south of Henderson (closed March 16 due to flooding)
