That's So Minnesota: Foshay Tower

KARE 11 Reporter Ellery McCardle goes on top of a landmark building in Minnesota.

MINNEAPOLIS -- There's a spot that I've been wanting to go up to for quite some time, but never have until recently and thanks to a couple of viewers. They reminded me of the Foshay Tower's observation deck.

The Foshay Tower is a landmark in Minneapolis as it was the first skyscraper built in the city and was the tallest from 1929-1971. That's according to the W Minneapolis, the hotel, that was built in the tower.

To get to the top, just head to the hotel on 821 Marquette Avenue. Walk to the lobby desks and pay the $10 to go to the top. There are special rates for school groups and kids, link here: http://www.wminneapolishotel.com/foshaymuseum

I went up on a chilly afternoon in early March, just as the sun began to set. It was a sunny but clear day and a beautiful one. Once on top, there's a museum inside, but the real view is when you walk out on the path where you can walk around the entire perimeter taking in views of places like the Target Center, AT&T Tower and the neighborhoods dotting the skyline. On a clear day, the hotel says you can see up to 30 miles away.

I love taking architectural photos, and I got a close-up view of the other nearby skyscrapers, so a big thank you to those who suggested I take this latest photo adventure. It was well worth it!
