Trail ride with the St. Paul Mounted Police

The St. Paul Mounted Police Foundation is hosting its third annual Urban Trail Ride on Sunday, May 6, 2018.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Paul Mounted Police Unit has six officers who patrol on horseback throughout the year.

In addition to patrols, the officers also work in parking enforcement and support other St. Paul Police Department officers in search efforts.

They often make public appearances, including block parties, parades, festivals, and other special events around the city. The horses are trained for use in the control of large crowds, such as the crowds that gather at the Crashed Ice event in St. Paul.

The St. Paul Mounted Police Foundation, which raises funds to acquire and equip the horses and for officer training, is hosting its third annual Urban Trail Ride on Sunday, May 6, 2018. Approximately 75 riders will travel a six-mile route around Cathedral Hill, the State Capitol, and the streets of downtown St. Paul.

Past rides have attracted spectators on the route. The Foundation’s website will include the route and suggested times for spectators to observe the groups of riders on the Urban Trail. You can register online as well.
