Spring Fever? Patios are out, but other businesses still getting ready

Patios in downtown Minneapolis are out. Ready to enjoy some food and drinks outside?

Spring is in the air, and with temps in the 40’s and 50’s this weekend, a lot of people are looking to get outside.

But what’s open?

You’d think, with most Minnesotans read to go this Spring, that every business would be ready to, but that’s not the case.

"Even though the snow's still on the ground we're still getting calls, are you open, are you open, are you open,” Meadowbrook Golf Course supervisor Joe Green says.

Most golf courses are still closed right now.

Green says the ground is still too soggy.

"February was rough,” Green says.

"My best guess is going to be around the second week of April is when we'll open up. Our driving ranges will probably open next week."

It's the same story at Bachman's Garden Center in Plymouth.

"It's still a little too cool out there so there's not much we can do," supervisor Naja Hayes says.

No yardwork or planting right now, but customers are getting their spring fix other ways.

"Those windowsill gardens, we do have some herbs people are picking up," Hayes says.

They're also picking up seeds to start things inside, but again, there's not much they can do outside.

"The best thing to do for lawns now is to stay off of them."

Come on, really? What about those of us who want to get out now?

"The patio is open right now," The Local restaurant manager Ryan Osendorf says.

Now that's what I'm talking about, sitting outside with the sun overhead, what could be better?

"It's absolutely an amazing change of pace," customer Kiara Carlson says.

Believe it or not, very few customers are out enjoying the patios right now.

Restaurant mangers say it’s just too cold for some people.

“Not too many customers yet, a few, a handful of hearty Minnesotans, but not a lot,” Osendorf says.

They may not packed, but a lot of the downtown patios are open, ready for anyone this weekend who's eager to get outside again.

If you’re looking to sit at an outdoor patio this weekend managers recommend calling ahead.
