PINE COUNTY, Minn. — A Pine City couple is dead after the motorcycle they were on was struck by a pickup Sunday afternoon not far from the Minnesota-Wisconsin border.

The Minnesota State Patrol website says 66-year-old Jerry Dean McDowell and his 61-year-old wife Sharon were on their Harley Davidson motorcycle, traveling East on Highway 48 when Jerry McDowell slowed and attempted to turn North on Fleming Logging Road.

A 1997 Chevy pickup was also traveling eastbound on Highway 48 and struck the motorcycle, leaving both McDowells with fatal injuries.

The driver of the pickup, a 17-year-old boy, was uninjured. Investigators say he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

At this point it is unclear if the pickup driver will be charged in the incident.
