Wetterling to deliver response to President's radio address
DFL House candidate Patty Wetterling will deliver the Democratic response to President Bush's Saturday radio address, focusing her comments on child protection in the wake of inappropriate e-mails sent by Rep. Mark Foley to a page. Wetterling, running against Republican Michele Bachmann in Minnesota's 6th District, has already run a television ad urging that immediate expulsions of members of Congress who knew about or were involved in inappropriate contact with underage pages. Foley, R-Fla., quit Friday after sexual messages between him and teenage male pages surfaced. Wetterling's son, Jacob, vanished 17 years ago after a masked gunman abducted him on a lonely rural road, prompting her evolution as an advocate. In a statement, Wetterling said she wants to promote "the world that my son believed in and that my granddaughter believes in, one where hope overcomes hate, where we live in safe communities and where we all have the opportunities to fulfill our dreams. "I look forward to having the chance to express this message in my response to the president's address." (Copyright 2006 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
