ST. PAUL -- House Republicans are calling for an investigation into out-of-state use of electronic welfare cards.
It's not illegal to use the cards in other states.
But House Minority Leader Marty Seifert says the numbers show it's worth holding hearings.
He also wants an audit to investigate the transactions for possible fraud.
Seifert's analysis shows more than $10 million worth of transactions outside Minnesota in the past year, or about 2 percent of total spending using the cards.
Assistant Commissioner Chuck Johnson says the Human Services Department is reviewing the information for potential fraud.
