ST. PAUL, Minn. -- National Democrats are planning to spend $1 million trying to defeat Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann in Minnesota's 6th District after she questioned Barack Obama's patriotism.

A spokeswoman says the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee will start airing TV ads on Tuesday.

Bachmann is running against Democrat Elwyn Tinklenberg, a former state transportation commissioner.

People from around the country donated $640,000 to Tinklenberg's campaign after Bachmann said Friday on MSNBC's "Hardball" that Obama "may have anti-American views." She later said her statement about the Democratic presidential nominee was misread.
