A committee of the Minnesota State Senate passed a controversial universal health care bill Tuesday on straight party lines.
But the measure, sponsored by Democrat John Marty of Roseville, faces tough sledding in the legislature, with stiff opposition from the insurance industry.
Tuesday's hearing drew so many people that tickets were required to get in to what are normally "open to anyone" events at the Capitol.
All 7 Democrats on the Senate Commerce Committee voted in favor of the measure. All 3 Republicans on the committee voted no.
