ST. PAUL -- Democrat R.T. Rybak is telling supporters he's running for governor, two days after Minneapolis voters re-elected him to a third term as mayor.

Rybak e-mailed supporters Thursday saying he filed the paperwork with state regulators. The e-mail includes a campaign logo the says "R.T. Rybak Governor."

Rybak says filing the paperwork is the first step in his gubernatorial campaign. He says he plans to take his message "to every corner of the state" in the coming weeks.

Rybak becomes the 12th Democrat seeking the state's highest office. There are eight Republican candidates. GOP Gov. Tim Pawlenty has ruled out a third term.
