CHAMPLIN, Minn. -- Authorities believe a driver had a medical emergency just before he drove his pickup into a pond on Monday afternoon.
It happened near Highway 169 and E. Hayden Lake Rd around 3:30 p.m. Witnesses say the pickup suddenly veered off the road and went into the water next the northbound lanes of Highway 169.
The 58-year-old driver was able to get out of the truck, though it is not clear if he got out under his own power or had help. He was alone in the pickup.
Authorities have not said what kind of medical emergency he suffered. The man was taken to the hospital to get treatment for that medical condition. The driver was not injured in the crash itself.
