Waseca Police respond to standoff

The Monday evening incident ended with one person in police custody.

WASECA, Minn. — A standoff between police and a man with a firearm ended peacefully in Waseca Monday night. 

According to a social media post, officers were called to the 500 block of 7th Ave. SE around 6:25 p.m. for a report of a man with a gun. 

that other people in the household were able to leave the home, and asked the community to avoid the area. 

Police say one of the individuals inside the house said the suspect had been using methamphetamine for a few days and was hallucinating. The individual added that the suspect had also fired twice inside the residence.

SWAT teams and officers from surrounding departments responded to the incident. 

Just before 11:30 p.m., Waseca Police reported that one person was in custody. The area around 7th Ave. reopened at that time. A search warrant was executed at the home where officers found additional firearms, ammunition, firearms-related items, methamphetamine and other controlled substances.

This is an ongoing investigation, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
