Northfield police issue warning after drug overdoses

The three people survived the overdose after receiving the life saving drug Naloxone.

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Police say three people overdosed on Oxycodone pills laced with Carfentanil, a synthetic opioid 5,000 times more powerful than morphine.

The three people survived the overdose after receiving the life saving drug Naloxone.

Police arrested 22-year-old Josh Tarka. He is accused of selling the pills and faces several drug charges.

Court documents say Tarka knew the specific pills were lethal but did not admit to dealing them.

Police in Northfield say the opiod abuse is something they too have been fighting a growing number cases.

"You can't point at that group and say its low income or people who only live in a certain area or have a certain income level or are poorly educated. We have had it across the board. Its not just a drug problem within a small segment of our community," said Northfield PD Chief Monte Nelson.

Police say the Minnesota Good Samaritan law, where a person observing an overdoses can call 911 for help without being prosecuted, also helped saved the three people's lives.
