GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - April is Parkinson's Disease Awareness month and once again, the Parkinson Foundation Minnesota and Dave Schwartz are teaming up to raise support.

It is estimated that more than 20,000 Minnesotans have Parkinson's disease and countless other family members and caregivers are directly impacted by the disease. The Parkinson’s Foundation makes life better for people with Parkinson’s disease by improving care and advancing research toward a cure.

Parkinson’s Foundation Minnesota provides the local Parkinson’s community with access to resources and services that include support group referrals, wellness classes and education programs available at no cost to people affected by Parkinson’s.

As a voluntary health organization, it relies on the generosity of individuals, foundations and businesses to serve the Parkinson’s community. Eighty cents of every dollar is invested in programs serving people affected by Parkinson’s. In the past five years, the Parkinson’s Foundation has invested $1,725,100 in local community efforts to ensure better care for people with Parkinson’s disease in Minnesota and the surrounding region.

KARE 11's Dave Schwartz and his family have been personally affected by Parkinson's and in honor of his grandmother, Sylvia, Dave will be wearing a new HammerMade tie during each KARE 11 News Saturday broadcast and every weekend broadcast from March 31 – April 22.

Each tie that Dave wears will be auctioned off to raise money to fund education and support activities for the Parkinson's community in Minnesota and surrounding states. Visit http://parkinson.org/DavesTies to join the auction and win a unique tie while supporting a good cause.
