MINNETONKA, Minn. -- Minnetonka High School's first ever Research Symposium was a great success with more than 40 students presenting their research to their peers.
"The biomechanics of baseball pitching and youth baseball pitchers, we have some cancer research, now casting and computer coding with influenza trends, sea anemones with coral bleaching. It was all across the board." said Kim Hoehne. Minnetonka Research Director
The student I mentored, Sarah Partridge, researched tornadoes and looked closely on the strength of tornado and the atmospheric conditions that were present at the time. Another student Lindsay Piefer had more of a personal connection to her research.
"I took cheek cells and I extracted my DNA from my cheek cells." said Lindsay Piefer, Senior. Minnetonka High School.
Lindsay has a rare genetic disorder that causes her to have weakened bones.
"Because of research there is going to be a treatment in the future for my condition. So people living with XLH will not suffer and will have a better life." said Lindsay.
The Minnetonka Research program is looking for more volunteers next year who may want to help.
