St. Paul firefighters respond to cave rescue

Crews successfully reached a person located about 30 feet inside a cave.

ST PAUL, Minn. — St. Paul firefighters rescued one individual from a cave off West Water Street, southwest of the Smith Avenue High Bridge on Tuesday afternoon.

KARE 11 crews on the scene initially reported rescue teams were attempting to reach a person who was located about 30 feet inside a cave. About a half hour later, crews pulled that person from a cave shaft.

Friends tell KARE 11 they were exploring the area prior to the rescue.

No injuries were reported.

"I was really worried, I was really scared for her, but I'm glad she's back up on the surface and that everyone's OK," the friend told KARE 11.
