Amy Robach Confronts T.J. Holmes About Being 'Emotionally Removed' From Their Relationship

Amy Robach Confronts T.J. Holmes About Being 'Emotionally Removed' From Their Relationship

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes "ain't right" -- or at least they weren't when they recorded the most recent episode of their iHeart podcast, Amy & T.J.

"We weren't expecting to record one today," Holmes revealed. "It's going to be a surprise to our iHeart team that even we have this podcast and it's even a surprise to Robach who is sitting here next to me, not in studio. We are in our living room right now."

He told Robach, "You and I aren't OK right now. I said, 'You know what? Let's set up and do a podcast.'"

Robach shared how she was feeling about Holmes, noting that he doesn't open up to her when he has bad days and can be "moody" at times.

"I felt extremely disconnected from you, and I am someone who does want and needs physical touch, words of affirmation and communication," she said, claiming Holmes was being "emotionally removed" from their relationship. "The last few days, I felt disconnected from you."

Holmes admitted that he does have mood swings, to which Robach replied, "I get we all have moods and we all wake up differently and we all feel differently based on experiences in life or things that are happening. I just feel like sometimes when you do have whatever, something serious, something pressure-wise, something significant, you do tend to emotionally and verbally withdraw from me."

Expressing what she wants from Holmes, Robach added, "I'd love for you to do is to confide in me, to lean on me, to share with me so that we're a part of the solution together."

After hearing his girlfriend, Holmes replied, "I have bad days. I have really bad days. And I have days that I, in my head, I need, I wouldn't say space, but I need help and I don't know where to get."

When Robach again pressed him as to why he wouldn't let her in, Holmes told her that she "wouldn't like the answer."

"Because when things get that kind of bad and I'm that kind of focused or that kind of quiet, the last thing in that moment I want to do is to tell you what I need," he confided. "That is how I feel, and that is the truth. Not that I think it's your responsibility. Well, you should just know."

He continued, "But in those moments, I can't imagine saying to you or explaining to you what I need or what I think you should do or what I want you to do. That's actually fine. The frustrating part is after the fact, when I am told that I did something wrong for how I reacted to how I was feeling."

The pair both apologized to one another after the conversation, and shared that they feel that they're "on their way" to working through things.

"Love sometimes is a choice, when it's hard, it's not just a feeling," Robach tearfully told Holmes. "Lust is a feeling, but love is a choice I believe, and I have chosen to love you."

It's been nearly a year since Holmes and Robach exited Good Morning America and ABC News after their romance was made public. A spokesperson for ABC News told ET in late January 2023, "After several productive conversations with Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes about different options, we all agreed it’s best for everyone that they move on from ABC News. We recognize their talent and commitment over the years and are thankful for their contributions."
