Mojo Nixon, a singer and comedian best known for his satirical novelty song "Elvis Is Everywhere," died on Tuesday at age 66.
Nixon, whose real name was Neill Kirby McMillan Jr., died following a cardiac event on the Outlaw Country Cruise, where he was working as a performer and host. The cruise was named for the SiriusXM channel on which Nixon also served as a host.
News of Nixon's death was shared by a Facebook page for The Mojo Manifesto: The Life and Times of Mojo Nixon, a documentary about the comic which premiered at South By Southwest in 2022.
"Mojo Nixon - How you live is how you should die," the post read. "Mojo Nixon was full-tilt, wide-open, rock hard, root hog, corner on two wheels + on fire… Passing after a blazing show, a raging night, closing the bar, taking no prisoners + a good breakfast with bandmates and friends."
"A cardiac event on the Outlaw Country Cruise is about right… & that’s just how he did it," the post continued. "Mojo has left the building. Since Elvis is everywhere, we know he was waiting for him in the alley out back. Heaven help us all. #mojonixon #siriusxmoutlawcountrycruise #elvisiseverywhere #weloveyoumojo."
Nixon started his career in the 1980s, partnering with Skid Roper for the majority of the decade. Their third album, 1987's Bo-Day-Shus!!! featured the song "Elvis Is Everywhere," which became Nixon's most popular track.
After the two parted ways, Nixon released several more albums with a backing band known as the Toadliquors. He also appeared in several feature films and video game voice acting roles, worked as a radio DJ and advice columnist, and hosted three shows on SiriusXM: The Loon in the Afternoon on Outlaw Country, the NASCAR-themed Mojo Nixon's Manifold Destiny on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio and the politically themed Lyin' C**ksuckers on Raw Dog Comedy.
Nixon is survived by his wife, Adaire, and two sons.
