GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- It's the "Year of the Engineer" at the Science Museum of Minnesota, and that means events and programming to help kids develop a passion for engineering.

To help with this, the museum visited KARE 11 Sunrise to show off some DIY science experiments for you to do at home with your kids this summer!

Here are five ways to uncover your child's inner scientist:

  1. Creating a science expedition at the park
  2. Going outside after dark to search for planets in the sky
  3. Collecting all kinds of rocks and organizing them by size, color and shape
  4. Taking apart an old telephone or radio to see what’s inside
  5. Visiting the Science Museum to enjoy hands-on science fun
