MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota-based General Mills says its office employees will be able to continuing working from home through end of the fiscal year in May 2021.

In a statement to KARE 11, the food industry giant said the decision applies to its office locations in North America "for those whose job responsibilities allow them to work from home, they will continue to have the ability to do so."

While some companies are taking lessons from the pandemic to consider a transition to full-time remote work, a General Mills spokesperson said their company was not currently considering such a move in the future.

"We believe there is value in employees being together in person to collaborate and foster a culture of learning, growing, and belonging. In the future, we expect the majority of our employees will return to the workplace and many of us are likely to blend time in the office with personal work time at home," said General Mills communications manager Kelsey Roemhildt.

General Mills said its manufacturing facilities have continued to operate during the pandemic "with our strong safety protocols in place." Additional manufacturing locations outside of North America are in a phased return to operation.

General Mills becomes the latest Minnesota company to announce a delayed return to the workplace for its corporate office employees. Target made a similar announcement for its corporate employees earlier this month.
