SWANVILLE, Minn. - Thousands of turkey chicks have been lost in a fire at a barn owned by a major producer in Todd County.

The sheriff's department says firefighters were called to the barn fire near Swanville about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The barn, owned by Jennie-O, housed about 19,000 4-week-old turkeys. Authorities say all the birds were lost in the fire and the barn sustained major damage.

Crews from Swanville, Grey Eagle and Flensburg fought the blaze for several hours. .
