Bicyclist killed after crash in Minneapolis

Police say the victim was hit by a car after he failed to stop at a stop sign.

MINNEAPOLIS — A bicyclist is dead after he was struck by a car in north Minneapolis overnight.

The crash happened at the intersection of Dowling and Humboldt Avenues North around 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Police say it appears the driver of the car was heading west on Dowling and hit the cyclist, who police say had blown through a stop sign.

The bicyclist died at the scene. There was a second bicyclist on the crash scene who wasn't injured, according to police.

After the crash the driver stopped, called 911 and was cooperative with officers. Police say they don't suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident.

The victim's name and official cause of death will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office once an autopsy is complete.
