MINNEAPOLIS — On Aug. 9, 2018, The Greater Twin Cities United Way (GTCUW), the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx are hosting Action Day to support kids in need in partnership with the Minnesota Twins, United FC, Vikings, Wild and the St. Paul Saints from 3 to 8 p.m. at Target Center.

Action Day is an annual volunteer event created by GTCUW that brings the community together to take action in solving a critical need by filling backpacks with supplies to help local kids get ready for a new school year. GTCUW’s goal is to bring together more than 4,000 volunteers to pack school supplies (enough to fill four semitrailer trucks) in 25,000 backpacks for children in need — doubling the effort and impact compared to last year. More than 50 metro area nonprofits will distribute the backpacks to families in need.

All seven of Minnesota’s professional sports teams will be volunteering, as well as giving away prizes at the event. Those interested in attending Action Day must register online prior to the event, and volunteers can take advantage of free rides to Target Center, thanks to Metro Transit. In addition, those who want to make an immediate impact can purchase a backpack online for a child in need.
