ST. PAUL, Minn. - Residents on St. Paul's North End are still on edge following a brutal assault earlier this week involving a 5-year-old girl.
"I’m scared for my children," said Alicia Caballero, a mother of four. "I hate to leave them out. I don’t want them out."
Police were called to the intersection of Cook Avenue West and Park Street North around 8:10 a.m. Monday after a bus driver spotted a little girl hiding behind a bush.
"She was bleeding from the nose, was bleeding from the mouth, her face was swollen and it appeared that she had a broken nose," said Steve Linders of the St. Paul Police Department. "In addition – and most disturbingly – her pants and underwear were down around her right ankle. She was crying hysterically and was unable to tell officers what happened."
"From a parent to another parent…make sure you have your eyes on your kids at all times," said Tommy Yang, a father of two.
Both parents say they're talking to their children about things like "stranger danger" and "good touch vs. bad touch."
St. Paul Police have made the case a "top priority" but, at this time, have not made any arrests.
