MINNEAPOLIS - An 18-year-old student has been charged in an alleged attack that left the principal of her Minneapolis alternative school unable to work.

The teen was charged in a juvenile petition Wednesday with third degree assault and fourth degree assault on a school official. She was a juvenile at the time of the December 7 attack. KARE 11 does not name juveniles unless they have been certified as adults.

Investigators say the student was in the cafeteria at Harrison Education Center when principal Monica Fabre approached and asked her to leave because the teen had been suspended and was not allowed in the building. Fabre was walking towards the door when witnesses say the student grabbed Fabre by the hair, pulled her to the ground and proceeded to punch her in the face several times. Other staff members pulled the teen off Fabre and she fled the scene.

The principal suffered a concussion and head trauma due to the assault, and has been unable to return to work under the advisement of her doctor.
