GiveMN's 'Give to the Max Day' is Thursday

For the first nine 'giving days' during GiveMN's initiative, donations built up to about $150 million.

MINNEAPOLIS - It's important to give to the less fortunate, but sometimes it can be easy to simply forget about it.

GiveMN set up an annual reminder to give in the form of 'Give to the Max Day,' which falls on Thursday, Nov. 15 this year. The event goes by 'GTMD18.'

For the first nine 'giving days' during GiveMN's initiative, donations built up to about $150 million. The tenth day is meant for maximum giving. In other words, it's the biggest giving day for GiveMN.

As of noon GiveMN executive director Jake Bumberg said more than 20,000 donors had given more than $10 million to 4,100 non-profits. Both #GTMD18 and #GiveToTheMaxDay are both trending nationally on Twitter.

According to GiveMN's site, GTMD18 is when organizations who make creative campaigns to promote giving will "celebrate the generosity of Minnesotans." This will be the 10th anniversary for Give it to the Max Day.

To celebrate its anniversary, GiveMN set up a special 10th Anniversary Prize Pool that closed on Wednesday. Organizations who did not get to enter will still be eligible for the regular annual prizes, such as 'golden tickets.' According to the GiveMN site, total prize giveaways since 2009 will reach $2 million this year.
