MINNEAPOLIS - Rep. Ilhan Omar will run for the 5th Congressional District seat as a DFL-endorsed candidate.
Omar received the DFL's endorsement on Sunday. After the votes were in, Omar wrote in a tweet, "Thank you so much to all the delegates, volunteers, and convention organizers who made today happen. Let's get to work!"
“Omar represents what’s great about America," DFL Chairman Ken Martin said in a statement released on Sunday. "Raised by a family of public servants who were forced from their homeland because of civil war and after four years in a refugee camp immigrated to the U.S., Omar has shown her dedication to serving all families who want a better life for their children."
Chairman Martin also pointed out Omar's track record of focusing on civil and human rights and poverty alleviation as a state representative.
