ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. - It makes sense that with a low temperature reading of -23, Monday was a rough day for vehicles across Minnesota.

Numbers released by AAA Tuesday back that up.

Spokesperson Gail Weinholzer says AAA shattered their roadside assistance record, servicing 3,000 members Monday. The old record was 2,500, set during a cold snap in February of 2007.

While the number of calls for help appears to be dropping Tuesday, AAA is asking for people for patience. Weinholzer says by 9 a.m. Tuesday dispatchers had handled 200 calls. On Monday, they had answered 400 by 8 a.m.

AAA's policy is usually "first call, first served," but due to the high volume and dangers posed by cold temps and windchill numbers they are handling calls on a priority basis.
