Funerals scheduled for four children killed in Saint Paul house fire

The Vang family and leaders in the Twin Cities Hmong community provided an update on the mother and two surviving children.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. — The St. Paul family that lost four children in a fatal fire last month shared a positive update on Saturday.

In a press conference live streamed on YouTube by 3 Hmong TV, community leaders gathered to support Pa Cheng Vang and his family.

"On January 3rd we woke up to a horrific tragedy. Pa Cheng's life was changed forever because a house fire killed four beautiful children,” a Hmong community leader said during the press conference.

A family spokesperson said funerals have now been scheduled for the four children who died in the fire.

The first funeral has been scheduled for February 17th.

The other three funerals have been scheduled for March 16th, March 23rd and March 30th.

During the press conference, the family shared a hopeful message, that their 3-year-old daughter has been out of the hospital for about two weeks and is back home recovering with family.

Meanwhile, a family spokesperson says the mother and their 6-year-old son are still in the hospital.

Family members say the mom was recently moved to another hospital and is still unconscious.

The family says the 6-year-old is awake and aware but is still trying to regain his mobility.

"Every night Pa Cheng hopes for a miracle. And he hopes and he prays that he doesn't have to say goodbye to another member of his family,” a community leader says.

A GoFundMe for the family has now brought in more than $500,000 to help cover funeral costs and medical bills.
