"Guns Down, Love up" campaign works to end gun violence

The campaign was started by the family of Tyrone Williams, a community activist who was shot and killed in 2018.

MINNEAPOLIS — A new campaign is hoping to put an end to gun violence.

Called, "Guns Down, Love Up", the campaign was started by the family of Tyrone Williams, a community activist who was shot and killed in 2018.

"This event is in honor of him and all the victims of gun violence," said Raeisha Williams, Tyrone's sister.

Saturday the group held a "unity" festival at Bethune Park in Minneapolis' Near North neighborhood.

They had food, live music, and tents with pastors on hand for spiritual counseling. When they arrived, people were asked to take a pledge to end gun violence.

The festival started just 12 hours after a deadly shooting in north Minneapolis, in which police say a man in his 30's was shot and killed.

"My brother's not here, and unfortunately, the victim last night, they're not here, but I'm here. And I'm taking a stance, saying end the gun violence," Raeisha said.
